PATTAYA, Thailand – A 42-year-old Indian tourist has suffered serious injuries after falling from height at a hotel in Pattaya early on Friday, with police examining CCTV footage and rescue workers believing alcohol may have contributed to the incident. The man, identified as Mr Abhishek, was found in pain in the parking area of a seven-storey hotel on Soi Buakhao 15 with fractures to both wrists and severe back injuries, according to rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation who responded to the report at 6:50 a.m. along with Pattaya City Police.

Rescuers gave Mr Abhishek first aid before taking him by ambulance to Pattaya Memorial Hospital for urgent treatment, and he was conscious and able to speak but complained of severe back pain and repeatedly asked to be taken to hospital quickly. Hotel staff said Mr Abhishek had arrived late the previous night with an Indian tour group and checked in to room 312 on the third floor, but staff told investigators that tour-group members sometimes exchange rooms without telling the hotel, so police are still trying to establish which room he was occupying and the floor from which he fell.

Officers inspected the rooms, are trying to trace the tourist’s movements, and are reviewing the hotel’s CCTV footage in detail, while they will also contact and question the tour leader and Mr Abhishek’s relatives. Police who inspected the area said there were no immediate indications of foul play or evidence that another person had attacked him, and their initial assessment is that he may have fallen after drinking, with rescue workers noting that the tourist smelled of alcohol, although he remained conscious at the scene.

The exact circumstances of the fall remain under investigation, and the hotel said Mr Abhishek has travel insurance providing cover of about 500,000 baht, with officials coordinating the insurance details to support his medical care. The case serves as a reminder of the risks associated with alcohol consumption and high-rise hotel stays, particularly for tourists unfamiliar with their surroundings, and authorities have urged visitors to exercise caution and be mindful of their safety while on holiday.
